Suse 10 (eval)

#1 Post by marvel » Thu Nov 03, 2005 5:17 am

Hi!

Tried to install the latest suse on my T40p. I had good experience from 9.3 pro, which made me to jump into this project without further ado. Unfortunately the 10.0 version couldn´t find adequately my ethernet card (IBM pro). Previous distro (9.3) identified the model number, found the any card and just worked right out of the box.

Googling for this particular problem made me realize that not many people use Suse on their thinkpads. Ubuntu seems to be ubiquitous...

Any suggestions (apart from switching to breezy)?

Thanks!

/Michael

Hi,

I think you must have installed the completely opensource version of Suse ( SUSE 10 OSS). The Novell version includes all the drivers that version 9.3 had. You can get missing packages by Yast by adding: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/10.0/S ... -GM-Extra/

to extra Yast Sources.

I think that will help..

I´m positive I´ve got the eval version. When I installed the Oss network install version, everything worked fine. After adding the eval dvd I updated everything and have now the complete version.

Another problem that I encountered: when booting with the thinkpad docked, x does´nt work (probably the mouse) and I have to restart hole thing undocked.
