Looks like Novell is going to drop the ball.

Too bad, another good distro bites the dust.

It's not like there were
not enough distributions out there.

Yeah, it looks like some people jumped the gun. (including me

)
Suse is not dead but is merely dropping KDE desktop in favor of Gnome desktop. Whatever.

I also don't
see a
lack of
desktop |
system |
variety,
for |
that |
matter.
But |
maybe that's
just |
me.

Everyone likes something different. There is nothing wrong with having choices.

I'd choose a
motif-based
gimp, then. Or at least a
kmixer that doesn't insist on starting up three-quarters of KDE while some gnome-based app gets the whole gnome infrastructure rolling. I'd choose
not to have two or more desktop systems fighting it out on
my computer just because some
programmer had a "
choice".
Coming up next: aRts and esd fight over who will 0wnzor the /dev/audio device!

IMO the point is:
I bought SUSE Linux 9.x Pro because it was a stable,
easy to install Linux with a well integrated, nice and
kind of "top-notch" KDE desktop.
That's - among others - what SUSE is/was known for.
Suse was one of the main contributors to the KDE project.
And suddenly the new owners decide against it,
and say we do GNOME now, but you can still use whatever
desktop you like in the openSuse version.
Did they buy a major KDE distribution only to zap it?
It's just a slap in the face of the customers.
On the other hand Mark Shuttleworth is officially pushing KDE.

That's the beauty of using open source software.
If you don't like the way something works you can write your own app

but if you don't have the skill or ambition to do it yourself you will have to put up with what is available.

It's not like there's not enough
teenies who have figured this out.

Here is the important line:
if you don't have the skill or ambition to do it yourself you will have to put up with what is available.
Either fix it or quit complainig!

I choose to complain while I put up with what is available. It's not an exclusive thing, is it (-:

Less Off Topic, seems like it's just that GNOME is gonna be the default, while KDE will still be available.
