X31 with Ubuntu 5.10

I'm now using Windows XP Pro. I have some knowledge about linux.

Is it easy to get X31 fully working with Ubuntu? How about battery, how long it lasts? (longer or shorter compared to XP) How about external display?

I know this isn't exactly what you are asking, but I have tried it on my x30 and it worked well.

You can boot Ubutnu as a 'Live CD' to get a feel for how well it likes the laptop. W-Fi is the one thing I'd be looking for. Even if it isn't automatically picked up it may not be too tough provided you're willing to study a little.

I don't expect your battery live will be any longer even after you have it fully setup.

I am running Breezy on my thinkpad, it runs like a champ. I have Kubuntu and Xubuntu installed as well (some days I like different UIs). Wifi worked outta the box, as did sound. I run my laptop docked and as long as you have the laptop LCD disabled, I have 1280X1024 resolution on my 17" flatpanel. Let me know if you have any questions.

I installed Ubuntu 5.10 today. How do you control bluetooth, cpu speed/fan and harddrive?

By default Bluetooth and WLAN are switched with the Access Connections Combi (Fn-F5). For the fan there are some Scripts (for T-Series, dont know if they are compatible to X-Series) at thinkwiki.org, but (as far as i remember) you would have to get a newer acpi-driver then what is in the ubuntu-repos. The driver for HDD shock protection is in work [1], but i would personally not test it.

I meant how to control HDD shutdown as a power saving feature. I can hear sometimes for example when using IRC that hdd suddenly shuts down. And after a while it starts when it needs to write something.
