I downloaded the OpenBSD-based Anonym.OS from Kaos.Theory and booted it on my T43. It's a LiveCD.

Here's the link Kaos Theory Anonym.OS

It boots just fine. It runs rather slowly since it is a LiveCD. However, it won't activate my 2915abg. Apparently, the radio on the wi-fi adaptor is turned off at bootup by default. The Fn+F5 sequence won't turn it on. The operating system knows my wi-fi NIC is there. ifconfig shows the iwi0 device, and it allows me to set the mode and various other parameters. But since the radio is off, I can't make a connection.

Maybe it'll work if I had a more conventional PC card wi-fi adapter, but I hate to buy one just to see.

Anyone know how to turn the 2915abg radio on? I know there are drivers for Linux to do that, but this is a LiveCD so I'm stuck with what Kaos.Theory supplies.

The linux ipw intel driver requires a proprietary firmware to exist in /lib/firmware. This is almost definitly not on your live cd. If the drivers (which ar open source) are on the distribution, you will be able to configure the card, but the card won't know how to "work."

If you are looking for assurance that the card will work in a linux installation, I can give it to you. I am posting this from an ipw2200 (sameish card, same driver) and it works perfectly.

If you need more than encouragement, post back with more questions.

the onboard card is FAR superior to any pcmcia I've used as far as receptions goes. I'm not just talking budget cards, I've had a whole line of proper lucent 5v cards with all sorts of antennae. The onboard is all I need now.
