Thoughts on Dual-Boot Ubuntu
Hey all...
I have Ubuntu on my desktop (second hard drive) and I love it. I wish I were to love it enought to leave windows. Anyway, I would like to put a copy on my ThinkPad as well. How much space should I partition on my drive for this? I would like to install a KDE desktop over Ubuntu (I like this setup). would 8 gb be enough for some basic internet, word processing and the like? I would rather try to get it to 5 gb - Im not concerned with reading/writing files between OS'es.
BTW - I have 12 gb of space left on the machine. I can easily eliminate about 15 gb of space though.
thanks,
Brian.

You can easily work with 5 GB of space (or even less) as long as you're moderately careful about the packages you choose to install. With 8 GB, you can throw caution to the wind and do whatever.
Since you're only doing relatively simple tasks which won't generate a lot of data, you will be more than fine with 5, or 8 GB.

Ubuntu & Kubuntu
I've been running Ubuntu on a test machine and am minda itching to put it on a laptop. I tried to do it on a old Gateway 2500 but that was a complete failure. Have any of you guys tried a clean load on an older TP such as 390, 380, 570 etc? And how do you load the Kubuntu desktop on to a Ubuntu load?

I think I used this link to do it on my desktop.

Give that a try...it should work.

I didnt install Kubuntu becuase I heard there were problems with it. Im still relatively new to Linux - so I may be wrong. I decided to go with Gnome and install KDE as well. This allows me to choose which desktop I would like to use at startup. If I feel like im in a minimalist mood ... I jump to Gnome. Otherwise I go with KDE.
