T43 with FC5 - Enable Wireless radio

#1 Post by Cybersky » Thu Apr 20, 2006 3:33 pm

Hi,

I'm new in Linux and I'm testing Fedora5 on my T43 but I can't find a way to enable the wireless radio.

Any idea?

Thanks...

Presumably, you have the ipw2200 (since its B/G only). The drivers are already in FC5, you just need the firmware from http://ipw2200.sf.net and copy it to /lib/firmware

Hi, there, I'm dealing with the same issues you speak of. I'm figuring it out now.

What I've learned so far:

http://www.ces.clemson.edu/linux/fc2-ipw2200.shtml

http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showth ... p?t=101489
http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/INSTALL

http://fedoranews.org/cms/node/548
(need to update wpa_supplicant?)

I haven't completed these steps yet, and am documenting my journey here

In addition, one thing I noticed that helps a lot is making sure Network Manager service is turned on. That puts an icon in the gnome desktop to give network status.

That app looks nifty (aside from the generic title), but you need to turn it on and add it to default running services.

I hope this helps someone out there, because if I came across this, it would have saved me a few hours of troubleshooting.
