Fed5 -> T20 = trainwreck

Just started a Fedora 5 install on a used T20 I just bought (20 gb/256mb). Midway through the 1st disk where it's beginning to load software (past all the initial setup) it stops with an error saying "bad CD". I use the Fedora media test, and disks 1 and then 2 come up bad; CDROM is very slow before finally erroring out. I'm fairly certain there's nothing wrong with the CDs; I did a desktop install just fine with them. I'm suspecting the CDROM is weak/old/flaky. BTW, it's too late for the pre-installed Win2000, as the hd was wiped already by the Fedora install.

Q: Would getting a new/better CD player help? They have the DVD/CDrw for this model as I understand.

Otherwise, I'd need some sort of net install, right?

Ive had that happen on bad cd rom drives before. But USUALLY its an error with the integrity of the burn.

Eliminate all possible software issues before investing in new hardware.
