Hello all,

I have a T60P with the DVD multibay recorder. Whenever I put a DVD into the drive and try to read it I get the following errors:
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost hdc: command error: error=0x50 { LastFailedSense=0x05 }
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost ide: failed opcode was: unknown
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 2804728
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 701182
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost hdc: command error: error=0x50 { LastFailedSense=0x05 }
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost ide: failed opcode was: unknown
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 2804732
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 701183
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost hdc: command error: error=0x50 { LastFailedSense=0x05 }
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost ide: failed opcode was: unknown
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 2804736
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 701184
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost hdc: command error: error=0x50 { LastFailedSense=0x05 }
Jul 10 16:25:24 localhost ide: failed opcode was: unknown
I get hundreds of these with the sector incrementing. I have tried different DVDs each getting the same error. I originally had Ubuntu Dapper installed and thought it might be that distro but I have switched to Gentoo 2006.0 and am still getting the same problem.

Has anyone seen this? Does anyone actually have DVD playback working on a t60p with linux?

Thanks in advance.

If dvd playback works in windows that it surely should work in Linux.

There are some caveats, like super proprietary formats and codecs. But for most things being able to install a couple of third party packages with Ubuntu should be able to get you up and running.

Visit your favorite distro's wiki or forums on the subject, they may recommend you to use specific packages and will usually have a guide to get "DVD Playback", "DVD Recording", "DVD Ripping", etc etc working.

Cheers. John.
