UBUNTU 6.06 hangs up on boot when T30 mated with dock

#1 Post by jdoutt » Wed Aug 09, 2006 5:04 am

I've installed UBUNTU 6.06 in a dual boot system on my IBM T30 laptop.

It boots up just fine when the computer is alone, but when it is plugged into the IBM docking station model 2631 at work it hangs up early in the boot process with the messages:

loading essential drivers
mount ing root file system
waiting for root file system
.... hangs up here

I know that IBM says this docking station "is not supported under LINX", but I was previously running Fedora core 3 on this machine without any problems (using the docks PCMIA and mouse connections). So I interpret IBM's statement to mean that 'passthrough' connections are OK but that perhaps special features will not work.

It also boots up just fine from the UBUNTU live/install DVD when plugged into the dock, so I presume that in my installed system UBUNTU is perhaps searching for a driver for the dock hardware (and I might be able to disable that).
