Linux Agere 97 modem driver

#1 Post by ray_burger » Mon Aug 23, 2004 1:03 pm

I have a Thinkpad A30p with an Agere 97 modem. I have just installed Redhat Enterprise WS linux. The kernel is 2.4.21-4EL. Since linux does not support soft modems, where can I find a driver for the Agere modem?

Thanks
Ray

Do yourself a favor and buy a PCMCIA modem. I bought a 3com 3CXM756 on eBay for $22 (including shipping). Worked out of the box on 3 different Knoppix based live CD's, and got a faster connection than with Agere modem in XP! Some distro's symlinked it to /dev/modem, while others saw it as /dev/ttyS2. Interesting thing was that 2 Gnome-based distro's didn't see it. I don't know what this has to do with GNOME vs. KDE, but that's the way it was. I tried Mepis, Knoppix, and XFLD...worked great. But Gnoppix and PCLinuxOS didn't see it.

Smart Link Modem Drivers work with Agere Modem

#4 Post by Firas » Mon Sep 06, 2004 1:24 pm

I own a T41 and am running Fedora Core 2 with a 2.6.7 kernel.
The Smart link modem drivers work pretty well for me. Here's the link:

Enjoy!

How do I block high frequency broadband signals from my modem? My modem with my broadband internet emits a very high frequency which is very disturbing to my girlfriend who is sensitive to high frequencies since she suffered a brain injury several years ago.

The dialling sound that you hear when the connection is established? Just mute the speakers.
