I'm quite a linux newbie myself, had to uninstall it infact I corrupted it by restarting during a reboot.

What I did was downloaded Knoppix and burn it to a CD. Then booted up with Knoppix, used GTParted to shrink my NTFS partition (whilst not touching the recovery part.) and then when installing Fedora Core. I told it to use that parition, so it segmented that 10GB into a few further partitions. It worked fine.

Hope that helps.

If you don't want to download all of knoppix you can just download a gtparted livecd I think 20MB?

Also, to be safe, set the security of the partition to "Secure" in the BIOS before going to repartition anything; that prevents it from getting altered by anything else until you are done with the whole process, then go back and set it to the mode it was at before (usually "Normal"). :)

Thanks for that tip also. Will come in handy when installing Fedora Core 6.

I installed ubuntu on my x31 fine without destroying my RnR partition. I don't have windows though, since I wiped it.

Don't forget to install grub in the superblock and not the MBR if you want to keep the use of the Access IBM key to access the RnR partition as well.

In other words install it in the root of the linux partition not in the mbr.
