Success getting Intel 2200BG wifi working in Linux..Finally!

#1 Post by Davemci » Sat Oct 28, 2006 12:29 pm

I'd installed an Atheros Mini-pci in my 600X and had it working within 5 minutes using madwifi drivers. I decided to install an Intel 2200BG mini-pci card in my t30. I was running kernel 2.4.33.3 and it became apparent that I'd have to upgrade to 2.6 if I didn't want to do a lot of patching. My distribution came with 2.6.13.? so to save time I built a new kernel using it rather then downloading the latest.. 2 days later I still couldn't get the ieee80211 drivers to work either as a kernel compile or a module following the ieee80211 procedures. Finally I download the latest kernel 2.6.18.1 and low and behold the 2200BG drivers and latest ieee80211 drivers were included in the kernel! What isn't included is the 2200BG firmware which is loaded into the 2200BG each time you boot linux. After installing the firmware and setting up a /sys file system. Eureka! It works! There are 6 or 7 different firmware drivers for the 2200BG and nothing to tell you which one your card needs. I tried about 3 without success. The latest one v3.0 worked. :D
