Saving rpms when updating SuSE

#1 Post by smugiri » Thu Nov 23, 2006 12:02 pm

Anyone know how to save a copy of the rpms used for install when using YaST to update SuSE from various packman repositories?

I am particularly interested in finding an easy way to install DVD capability on a SuSE machine without having to go through the whole (remove crippled video apps/add repositories/pull full functionality rpms down/install full capability apps) cycle every time I install SuSE on a machine as it is an extended nuisance.

The particular apps I want are VLC (DVD ripping and video playback), xine and maybe MPlayer which I am unhappy with it due to some audio lag issues - sound seems to have delta of about 2 seconds from video for both DVDs and files and that delta grows at the video plays. I know that audio can be synchronized using pre-defined keys but when I run a video, I want to watch it, not run a dubbing workshop.

I have managed to pull down a ton of stuff including the dvd decryption library, windows codecs and some other stuff but I still need to get all the other codecs as well as the apps in a set that has all the dependencies OK.

I think that the rpms are stored somewhere in the /var filesystem while the download is taking place but they seem to dissappear as soon as they are fully downloaded.

Any help will be appreciated.
Steve
