How to install wireless card under Linux?

#1 Post by haoc » Sun Dec 17, 2006 5:19 pm

The T60 wireless card:
ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ
the PCIID: 168c:1014.
I have a Knoppix/Debian on the labtop. Then how can I get the wireless card work?
I try the madwifi, it does not work. And the ndiswrapper + the window driver does not work too.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Have no network in Linux is really disturbing. (:.
Thanks.

T60-2613CTO, T7200, X1400, 1GB.

>...ndiswrapper + the windows driver does not work...

strange: I've found ndis+XP driver very reliable on numerous
debian 3.1 thinkpads & many different PCMCIA/usb wifis

debian:
1. did you get the kernel source & "make menuconfig"?
2. does yr /lib/modules/2.x.y.z directory have a file
"build" pointing to yr kernel source directory?
3. what version of ndiswrapper? (I use 1.14.)
4. wherefrom/what windows driver?

knoppix: (did this 6 months ago)
includes ndiswrapper: suppose yr driver is xyz.inf
1. ndiswrapper -i <path> xyz.inf
2. modprobe ndiswrapper
should work: maybe "rmmod ndiswrapper" first

this shouldn't be hard; please tell all:-)
the way up and the way down are the same (heraclitus)

I had no trouble at all by using the Linux supported by Thinkpads:
SLED 10 or SUSE 10.x
