SLED ThinkVantage Tools on Ubuntu (T60)

Hi everybody,

I've got a small question. There are some Tools like Access Connections or the Battery Maximizer available on the Lenovo webpage.
They're obviously designed for SUSE Linux. But I want to use Ubuntu or respectively Kubuntu.

Is there anyone who has already installed these tools on (K)ubuntu and could give me some tipps? Or isn't it possible to do so? I actually didn't find some apt-packets and Suse uses rpm I think.

Would be great if there's someone who has got some experiences.
Thanks a lot!

Greetings,
Marcel :)

I've never tried installing the tools, but to convert an rpm package to .deb you could try this guide

Neat--I didn't know Lenovo had official tools for ThinkPads on Linux!

Though, why do you need Access Connections? On modern distributions NetworkManager seems like a totally viable replacement...

As far as network access management is concerned I agree with tamasrepus. NetworkManager applet provides the most simple and intuitive control over network access I've ever come across. Gnome power manager is also getting better day by day.

But Thinkvantage just doesn't stop at network management or power management. There's a plethora of other stuff like trackpoint settings. I wish we had GUI interfaces for the same. Would make life a lot easier

hdaps is the package name.. I can get the 3d tilting image of my thinkpad, now to actually link that to shutting down the hard drive. I have the hdapsd daemon running, but it isn't doin much for me yet.
