hello fr0zenmon
Try installing Ubuntu 6.10 and automatix2 instead, it's got better hardware support.
And about Beryl:

and

Good luck :=)

I just installed ubuntu 6.06, mainly cause i had the cds laying around. I wanted to do 6.10, because of hardware support. How can i install ubuntu without the disc (netinstall) Do I have to reinstall ubuntu for 6.10 to work?
Until my burner is replaced a couple of weeks, i am kinda stuck, right?

It sounds like a graphics card issue. Either you don't have the proper drivers installed, or your computer cannot handle it.
I know there used to be a freeze up with a few Nvidia driver builds.
try running beryl from command line and see if you get any meaningful output.
