Backing up - imaging - Linux

I should be grateful for some advice. I am long time Windoze sufferer beginning to dip my toe into the world of Linux (using Ubuntu - which seems ideal for a newbie).

My question please. How do I go about identifying a suitable back up or imaging program which would be suited to me (i.e., easy for a Windows person to understand). I am quite happy to pay and not looking necessarily for a free or open source program.

As a point of reference, I use Acronis True Image for making an entire image of my machine in XP. Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of something broadly equivalent (in terms of ease of understandability and use).

I think that if you make the acronis boot cd it will image Linux just fine.

True Image works perfectly for imaging and restoring Linux partitions even if you run the program from within Windows. This assuming that you're dual-booting. If not, do what carbon_unit suggests.

As for backing up, you don't need a special piece of software to backup your system, since Linux doesn't hide anything (unlike Windows).

It's command line based, but fairly easy to follow.
