Just can't get it to work. Installs and runs the splash but sits there for minutes then goes to a blinking cursor, Says something about the jobs being off.

I'd really like to give M$ the boot but need to get comfortable with Ubuntu before I dive in. Ideas?

I believe this is an old version. I am a newbie myself, and have been trialling the version 6.10 which can be downloaded from www.ubuntu.com. The beauty of Ubuntu is that you copy the downloaded files onto a CD, boot from the CD and can trial the system on a virtual basis. The same CD can be used to install the files to the hard drive.

I have no prior experience of installing any of the Linux variants, but found Ubuntu to be very user friendly.

How much memory do you have? I tried it on a T23 with 512 and it flew. Didn't care for it so I didn't install it. On a Compaq with 128MB, it would give intermittent hang ups with blinking cursor or hung at the Nautilus install for over an hour.

I've got 512. Maybe I'll download the CD image and try that. This was supposed to be the equivalent w/o that hassle. Did wonder if it was the firewall that might be the trouble. Started to uninstall it and just go with the XP SP2 to see what happened.
