this should probably be in the linux forum, but yes I have gotten drivers working. Which ones are you using? I would assume you were using fglrx . http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu ... tion_Guide has guides for installing fglrx on recent versions of Ubuntu

I am trying to use fglrx, to no avail. I'll try the link you gave me. I am using Kubuntu, and I'm using Feisty Fawn, so maybe I'm asking for trouble?

Let me guess...
You guys are on kernel 2.6.20

fglrx works on kernel 2.6.20,
there are a few steps for fglrx to work, use the same steps for 8.35.5, but if you download the new 8.36.5, you wont have to patch the file
I am running fglrx fine, with V3200. My hardware info sez something like m24, but my fglrxinfo sez v3200, as does the new linux catalyst, which blows btw. I run beryl on xgl and it looks real good, but you got to turn vsync on, big time

How do you turn on vsync? I have accel working but lots of tearing.

Thanks! -Mike

You can try running a program called 'Envy', which will automatically grab and install the latest ATI driver.

Here's a link to the Envy homepage

Despite the nVidia emphasis, it does include ATI drivers.

The author states that Envy works w Ubuntu. Okay I run SuSE. Will the app work?

Envy and SuSe

I doubt that Envy would work with SuSe.

SuSe (I believe) uses .rpm packages, which can be downloaded and installed similarly to a windows .exe installer. Ubuntu uses the Debian system, which uses .deb packages and has a package management system where Canonical (the company that makes Ubuntu) has servers with supported software able to be downloaded with aptitude.

Since SuSe doesn't support .deb files and does not have aptitude, I doubt that Envy would work.

However, you should be able to find a .rpm for fglrx and instructions specific for SuSe. Try to find a Novell or SuSE forum where people may be able to direct you to that.

Thanks, but its not a moot point as I have installed Fedora 7 and got the required .rpms straight from them.
