Just got my T60 (2613CTO) and want to give a shot on Ubuntu, but I can't even get into the installation interface. It froze after showing "booting kernel".

BTW I am trying Ubuntu 6.06.1. Has anybody had the similar problem? Thanks

Tried different versions but got the same problem. Seems there might be
something in the BIOS I need to change. But the booting sequence is in the
right order. Really confused.

Make sure you have changed hdd settings from "enhanced mode" to “compatibility mode” in BIOS.

Switched to compatibility mode but still didn't work

I know that this doesn't really help you with your particular problem, but have you tried the newer Ubuntu. If you don't require the Long Term Support (6.06 goes to 2009 whereas 7.04 goes to 2008) I personally believe that 7.04 would be the better choice.

Myself I ran into some problems with 6.06 or 6.10 (sorry I forget which one), especially with the actual install of it. I found that it was very very slow with the vesa driver to install. Of course, this was fixed with switching it to fglrx once I had the machine installed, but it was still a painful install.

Other people had problems with partitioning, and having the OS installer crash. I didn't have this problem though because I did all of my partitioning separate from the actual Linux install itself.

The one feature that I find does not work yet on 7.04 is the Suspend mode. I honestly haven't tried to get this working yet though since I pretty much either shutdown, reboot or hibernate my machine.

Sorry that I do not actually have a solution to your problem, I just figured that I would give my perspective on the version of the OS in case you were considering moving to a newer one.

Thanks for all your help. The problem turns out to be with the CD. The CD burned using a different burner with 48X can't be read smoothly by the DVD recorder on my new T60. I vaguely remember in the past there was a compatibility issue of CD burned using different speed (eg. a 8X CD reader has problem reading CD burned with higher speed.) but I thought that wasn't an issue any more.

But anyway I re-downloaded the ISO file on my T60 and burned a CD and the installation went smoothly. Now I have dual systems on my T60!
