someone made a program called "envy" (easily installed with synaptic in ubuntu) when you start it you can select if your wanna install or uninstall nvidea or ATI - and that is exactly what it will do - also edit xorg.conf automatically.

I have also tried it on a T60 in the past. Works like a charm.

One of the first things I did on my latest ubuntu installation on my R60 (with X1400). Works well.

Envy works perfect for me on Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn on a T42p
with Radeon Mobile FireGL T2. Saved me a lot of work.
Don't forget to donate to the author.

Before I was fluffing around for a day because the std package
installation did not update the driver string for the ATI device
from "ati" to "fglrx" in the xorg.conf .

Amen to that!!!

I tried it; it works; it saves me TIME. (precious commodity)
This is worth $5 to me.
$5 too rich for you? How about $2? $1?
50 cents? ( yes, I know, this is not practicable, due to the fees imposed)

We, as end-users, NEED to start supporting the code-writers with more than words.
