Factory state gone...

#1 Post by Gabox » Fri Jul 13, 2007 3:20 pm

Hi!

I'have just tried ubuntu on my z60m, and now i want back the factory state for a fresh winxp. Hovever, when i press the thinkvantage button, rescue and recovery won't load anymore, instead, i get a panel with three choices (boot hard disk, cd...)

Please help me, how could i get it back?

I believe you have installed the linux bootloader on MBR.

You can repair it via:

Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette

Like it says all over this forum. The first thing you do is make the restore disks. :??:
That way when you play with the partitions or the MBR you can always get back to factory state.
Hopefully you will be able to fix the MBR and get to the restore partition. Actually my Ubuntu install made an entry for the restore partition in GRUB. There were two entries pointing to windows, one booted windows, the other booted into rescue and restore.

Yes, i can select that boot entry, but when it starts loading, it crashes with error code 22 or something like that.

There used to be a cd image but it got removed for some reason. Maybe you can borrow a USB floppy from someone?

Try "testdisk". There is a thread on here about partition recovery.
