Ubuntu & ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 Support/Drivers

#1 Post by n1nj4Lo » Tue Aug 14, 2007 3:12 am

Anybody know if or has come across any drivers that would work with the newest version of Ubuntu and Dual Monitor support...

I've got my A31 setup to Dual Booting with Ubuntu and WinXP Pro... I was just hoping I could get dual monitor/display support with Ubuntu...

Thanks

A while ago I tried dual displays on a T42 using Kubuntu but was less than successful on the whole. The dual displays worked fine but then I rebooted the laptop without the secondary monitor the X server started crashing looking for it. Luckily I had made a backup copy of the configuration file so was able to restore. So if you do try such things keep making backup copies of the config files before over-writing the originals.

I can't remember what drivers or instructions I used but I am pretty sure I googled for them.

I hope this somewhat helps.

Heya,

Not wishing to blow my own trumpet...but I've written a very thorough guide on this whole matter based on my Radeon 7500 based T40 running Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.

The guide explains:

- How to get TV out working for DVD playback
- Dual Screen support, detect monitor on boot and then ask if you want to mirror or extend.

It works really quite well :)

You can download the whole PDF from my blog at:

Hope this helps,

To all............very good and comprehensive pdf on Ubuntu and Thinkpads, T40's to be exact. I've installed Ubuntu 7.04 on my T41 and Vicky's guide has helped "tweak" the system.

Thanks Vicky,
Ron
