T60 with Fedora 7 wireless problem

Hello,

I have a T60 with a Intel PRO 3945abg wireless interface.

I follow these commands to get associated to an AP:

ifconfig wlan0 up
iwlist wlan0 scan
iwconfig wlan0 freq 2.462G
iwconfig wlan0 ap mac
iwconfig wlan0 essid "xyz"
iwconfig key abc123

However at this point I make an iwconfig to see if the association is successful but it is not. This machine has dual boot and Windows XP get associated without any problem.

I follow the same commands in my 600x who is running Centos 4 and has an Atheros AR5212 wireless interface and the association is successful.

Any suggestion ?

Why don't you try using the iwlist wlan0 scan command to search for available networks. This will at least tell you if your driver is properly loaded.

Or, if you're running Fedora 7 (I assume using gnome), why don't you try to use NetworkManager. That should take the work out of manually using iwconfig for your wireless card settings.

I have F7 on my T60 with the same Intel card. I use NetworkManager and it finds and connects to my WAP automatically. It asked for my encryption key the first time and asks for a keyring password each time I log in, for security.

If you want to avoid that prompt, you can use your login password as your keyring password and make some configuration changes. I don't remember where that information is at the moment.
