Support for South Slavic languages in Linux...

#1 Post by ajkula66 » Tue Sep 04, 2007 9:31 pm

I'd rather not make this into a linguistic affair, but here's where I stand: looking for a distro that offers good support for South Slavic languages (anything from former Yugoslavia:Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian...) so far I've seen KDE support, one Serbian and one Croatian distro and was impressed with none of the above. If anyone knows anything, especially on a GNOME basis, I'm willing to listen...

To be absolutely honest, at this point I'm willing to listen to ANYTHING that may show me the way...

All the best

System->Administration->Languages shows all of these as options in Gnome. I have no idea if its any good, though.

Using Google I found a Croation Linux Users Group:

Chris,

Thanks for the tip...yes there are quite a few Linux users in former Yugoslavia, but they mostly run stuff either on UK keyboard/setting (easier for Croats than for Serbs) or use a couple of local distros that I'm really not crazy about...and I've been on the other local sites around there and some of them have actually been shut down for lack of interest...and quite a few mirrors don't work so downloading stuff from over there is a pain...

I guess I'll just have to wait until someone compiles a few distros that I haven't tested yet and bring me the CDs from there...
