How to turn off wireless WLAN in linux ?

By turning off WLAN I mean no power to the wlan card. Is this doable in linux ? How ? Debian etch in particular.

Depending on your model, you can either flip the wireless power switch (T60), or use tp_smapi or tpctl.

It seems tp_smapi is only for access to the battery ?
