Well they open in totem right away for me.
Did you install mp3 support?

xmms is small and plays all .pls files. I never coild understand opening a big app like amarok to play a stream. The only controls you need are play, pause and stop.

I tried that before posting and with xmms it said MP3 support has been removed due to patents... and with Amarok it said media plugin required...

Finally got mp3s to play using this command:
rpm -Uvh

and install xmms-mp3 plugin
However the shoutcast still didnt work. I'm working on it. Plz let me know if u know. Thanks

While it sounds as if the problem can be resolved by installing proper mp3 drivers, and you'll want to do this anyway, foobar + WINE is f'ing pimp. foobar is a fantastic and powerful media player with a beautiful, spartan GUI.

I just went to shoutcast, clicked on a "Tune in" button, saved the .pls file to a folder on the desktop, opened xmms, dropped the .pls file into the xmms window and it played.
I always save the .pls files in a folder, rename them so I can keep track of them and then it is easy to play them again.

You could also use audacious as an alternative to xmms. Just make sure you install mp3, aac support and you'll be good to go. I used to use xmms exclusively, but switched over to audacious now. It's come a long way and is now just as powerful.
