Volume/Brightness indicators on Fedora 8

Hello,

I have installed Fedora 8 on my T61. Although I also installed the tpb package that comes with it, the volume keys don't work and no indicator appears on the screen. Something similar happens with the brightness of the screen. The indicator appears and shows that brightness changes, but it actually doesn't.

I don't know if it is important, but I use KDE and not the default GNOME.

Any ideas what I should check? Why does the tpb package not work?
