I just finished installing xp and ubuntu (easily installed version of debian). It picked up almost everything including wireless! This was a great plus since I am still new at linux and I have been too lazy to tackle wireless under FC2. So for you lazy ones out there, ubuntu is very nice and does it for you! :D

Can you please tell me if you have IBM or Intel wireless in your T42x?

I'm running ubuntu too on a t42 with the ibm wireless.
It has an atheros chipset which is covered by the madwifi drivers.

Atheros drivers arent standard kernel drivers but the crew from ubuntu was kind enough to patch their default kernel with the madwifi sources.

hail to ubuntu :)

Running 2.6.9 now instead of the default 2.6.8.1 cuz i like homemade kernels better.

I have the atheros chipset just as the previous comment. Picks it up and connects, was so nice to have wireless in linux!
