Ubuntu on my 750P!

#1 Post by whizkid » Mon Dec 24, 2007 8:47 am

After many hours of tweaking and poking, and swapping many floppy diskettes, I finished documenting the process of getting Ubuntu 6.06 LTS running on my ThinkPad 750P.

http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_Ub ... nkPad_750P

System specs for the curious: 33MHz 486, 36MB RAM, 5.1GB disk, 10.4" 640x480 gray scale screen, not TFT.

This is a very old machine, and I'm pleased it's running Ubuntu at all, but I could use some help getting some things to work. I'm still very new to Ubuntu and Debian. Any help you could provide would be great. I'm happy to put that knowledge on the ThinkWiki page. Just PM me, post it here, send me a link, or edit the page directly. Things like:
* Proper keyboard configuration
* Any function keys
* TrackPoint (even in text mode)
* Suspend to RAM, suspend to disk, resume
* Sound
* X Window System (not holding my breath)
* Pen interface
Machine-Project: 750P, 600X, T42, T60, T400, X1 Carbon Touch

I doubt you will have much of a GUI experience with Ubuntu on that machine. Try DSL or Puppy Linux.
T60 2623-D7U, 3 GB Ram.
Dual boot XP and Linux Mint.
