[365XD] Still X problems ..

After my last BIOS upgrade under the original OS, and a brand-new (ok, not so new ;)) 64 Mb stick, I began installing Debian.

Everything works beautifully until X setup ...

Unfortunately, all the links I found on the Net are a bit outdated for the current Xfree4.3.0.dfsg ..

I have the same pbs as described here -> http://marc.merlins.org/linux/laptops/T ... Xfree.html but the Xcyber trick wouldn't work anymore ..

Can anyone help ?

I did not get Xfree 4.X to work on 365XD's but 3.3.6 was still in stable and worked fine.

Try the SVGA server instead of the Trident one, it's a bit slower but has no issues at all on my Debian 3.1 (Testing) 365XD. No flaming orange lines, no issues going from a text console to X and back, etc.

Since you're on Debian, try this:

root_shell# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

Thanks for this tip .. BUT :

- I have no svga line in debconf (trident, vesa, vga, glide, etc .. but no svga ??)

- The reconfiguring of xserver-xfree86 seems to NOT update the XF86Config-4 file ?????

- Can you post your config file here please ?

- Are you still with a 2.4.x kernel ??

1. You're right. Try VESA. Sorry.
2. It updated it for me.. Strange...
3. http://home.cfl.rr.com/rkevans/XF86Config-4
4. uname gives me: 2.4.27-1-586tsc #1 Wed Dec 1 2004
