I think the significance lies in the fact itself that you can BUY a TP with Linux pre-installed, as opposed to being force-fed on M$-Windoze.

How's that ? You would have to pay extra on top of what you'd pay if you just got XP. A point will come, I'm fairly certain, when more of the machines will be offered with no software, which I would highly embrace...since I'm really not too crazy about all the stuff that IBM/Lenovo adds to its versions of MS, not including drivers, of course.
I have seen quite a few and owned a couple of "customer configured" ThinkPads with no preload, but have never figured out whether these were just "corporate specials", or there was a way of getting one as an individual...
