Gutsy on T61 = Flash issues

Has anyone been able to fully resolve this situation? I've got Flash and Java installed and I can view Youtube content, but that is about it. Most audio and video streaming I come across will not play. I have looked all over the 'Net and see this problem is widespread, but no one seems to have a definitive solution.

Do you have the 64-bit version?

And is Flash content not playing, or actual videos not wrapped in Flash?

No.

Most audio and video players do not work. On further inspection, Realplayer and Quicktime content do not play either. I have codecs for QT and the actual Realplayer installed.

This may not work for you since I have different hardware, but I ran into the same issue when upgrading to Gutsy. This is what worked for me:

In your home folder, rename the following two files to something else

~/.asoundrc
~/.asoundrc.asoundconf

Restart X and, if sound is now working, delete the two files.

Running Fedora 8 x86_64 on my T61 here.

Flash (and that includes the "player" frontend for flash videos) generally runs without problems for me. Needs the nspluginwrapper, of course.

Other a/v content is usually handled well by mplayerplug-in.

The most troublesome part are webpages with misguided "browser detection" javascript crap. Sound and video generally plays as long as the web page lets you.
