ok well after being sick of using windows i decided to give linux a try. i used to use it all the time back in the day but that was with redhat 7.3 so things have changed a little since then.

anyways i can not figure out the video and sound drivers.

ive been searching all night and i must be either blind or stupid.
who knows.

any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

This page has some good information: http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T61p

And let's see what that site has about sound: http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/AD1984

Good information there and it applies to all versions of Linux.

hey thanks dude. i really appreciate it. due to me not licking the feeling of SUSE i decided to go back to redhat since ive used it many times in the past and i have always like it. but the links you gave me will really work out nicely since i have had a hard time trying to install it in the past. so once again Thanks man.

Just my experience with another T61p.

{
Product: ThinkPad T61p 6457-5KU

Original description: T7700(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1920x1200 LCD, 256MB nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn(n-disabled), Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion, WinVista Ultimate
}

I have installed Kubuntu and got everything working, eventually. Video was the hardest. None of the prepacked drivers worked with it and hence no xserver. I had to download the driver from NVidia website and install it; followed by a re-configuration of the xserver.
