Fan Control on a 240x w/ Xubuntu 7.04?

Well I've suped up (well, as far as I can) the 240x that I received from phool@round and was able to put Xubuntu 7.04 (alternate install) on it. I've been reading up on the tpfancontrol script from thinkwiki but I'm not entirely sure how to run it (or if tpfancontrol will even work on a 240x). I'm really a complete newbie on this Xubuntu so any advice would be highly appreciated! (Plus, I wasn't sure if this was the right section to post this in?!)

Assuming Xubuntu provides ibm_acpi or thinkpad_acpi (and it should), you can control fan by simply echoing level to /proc/acpi. Please post output of:

Code: Select all

lsmod |egrep "acpi|ibm|think"
ls /proc/acpi

Thanks lightweight! I'm having problems adding the Synaptic packages for acpi unto my TP240x - and having problems w/ sourceforge's thinkpad-acpi & ibm-acpi installs! I'll keep trying though (as I'm new to this!)

I guess the 240x is too old for acpi. ACPI has to be supported by the hardware and the 240 is still from the apm-era.
APM of course is BIOS-controlled only, no OS-Control of things such as the fan.
