debian 4.0 on a30 anyone? (ati driver problem)

#1 Post by mclien » Tue Feb 26, 2008 1:46 pm

Is anyone using debian etch 4.0 on a A30?

I have big problem to get the external vga working.
(and althogh minor problem in changing the resolution of the build in LCD).
Has anyone a working xorg.config?

the ati chipset in the A30 is old enough that it is not supported byt he FGLRX driver. the open source radeon driver should support it and it will support the higher resolutions, and has good enough performance to play things like neverball and neverputt.

I don't know about the A30 in particular, but to get tv-out working on older ati cards you need to apply the so-called 'GATOS' patch to the open-source ati driver. There's a howto on ubuntuforums, but be warned: it definitely is a bit of a procedure.
If you want I can look up the direct links to the howto and the needed files.
