Running Linspire 6 on a T23
Just installed Linspire 6 (actually 5.1.427) and can't connect using my ethernet cable.
Running Network Settings from Control Center gives an error msg after "searching" for a coupla minutes.
I tried this in both my T23's (a 5MU and a 5GU).
The message reads:
"The application Linspire Control Center (kcontrol) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV).
They fixed the dialup problem from Freespire 2 where the internal modem would not be recognized but now the networking capability is absent. Freespire 2 did not have this problem and didn't need any setting up to locate and use my ethernet cabled DSL.
I need to use both dialup & DSL because I connect in two different locations.

you might give mepis a try. i dont normally tell peeple to switch distros but ive seen more peeple have problems with the linspire/freespire set ups then any other distro so ive stayed away from it.
Mepis is also set up to be a easy to use distro like linspire and ubuntu. im running mepis on my fiances t23 and the ethernet works fine, though i dont know about the modem, i removed the original wireless combo card and put in a wireless g card.

I can't comment on dial-up settings, since I don't use them, but something sounds very wrong here.
Having gone through different versions of Linspire/Freespire I'll admit to having problems with certain wireless cards, but never with LAN. And this is on A31p where the network cards are identical to T23.
Have you tested the disk itself to ensure that it's OK?
Now that you got my curiosity up and running, I might just have to download it and burn myself a CD to test...

I have 2 TPads (both 23's) so I can use the same hard drive in each.
Neither one gave me any success when trying to run network settings.
Any suggestions? A wireless card or usb is out 'cause my modem/router combo is not reliable when running on wireless. The direct cable route is great though. Two PCs running together at fine reliable speed.

Some Linux disks have the capacity of self-testing at boot menu. I remember the last Freespire disk that I've played with having this option.
Does your DSL have static IP or not?

I think I have a choice at boot for Diagnostics. I will reboot and see.ajkula66 wrote:Some Linux disks have the capacity of self-testing at boot menu. I remember the last Freespire disk that I've played with having this option.

It's Verizon DSL. How would I know if it's static IP?

Diagnostics
When I select the boot option "Diagnostics" I get a rapidly scrolling screen with a lot of error: failed to open config file /etc/modprobe.d/ lines. Any way to use this info? Is it saved to a log file to view it later and put it to use?

If your Verizon DSL is a "consumer" one, it probably doesn't have a static IP, and you'll be OK. However, if it's one of the "business" ones, you'll have to configure the network manually.
Now...I'm not a Linux guru, just someone who plays with different distros, and happen to have used Linspire/Freespire a bit, and for a while on my machines...to the next part:
a) Is this a factory CD that you have?
b) If not, please post or PM me a link where you've downloaded it from, I'll burn myself a CD tonight, test it out and let you know what I come up with.
That's the best I can tell you so far. What you see at boot seems very wrong...but I don't know how to go about it.
