Mandriva 2008.1 Spring now available!

Mandriva 2008.1 Spring final released...
Mandriva presents its latest distribution: Mandriva Linux 2008 Spring
There are download links on the above webpage for the "Free" version, Live CD version (aka: One), and the Powerpack versions (you have to buy those).
I am currently downloading the One version for a tryout. The One version seems to be available on only a few mirrors so far. The Free version is more widely available.

I am currently running off of the One CD on my T42. Display and wireless worked from the get-go.
Just ordered the Powerpack box version.

Are you using the KDE or GNOME flavour? And what machine are you installing it on? Just curious.

KDE on a T42 with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 and Intel 2200bg WiFi card.

In went into my T61 with no issues whatsoever, everything works out of the box so far. I'll have to play with the package manager a little to see if I like the rumored improvements.
Those Mandriva folks have put out another excellent release!

Sorry to pop in unannounced, but I just have to ask: Has anyone put Mandriva on an older machine? I have a Legacy, numbered TP, but I put Mandrake (I think it was 7) on a Gateway Astro, which is a comparably performing machine. On the Gateway, I had to swap the CD-ROM drive from an even older machine (and this was 5 years ago...) to get the disk to boot. I just tried to install it on a newer Gateway tower that was a 1.0GHz PIII with similar results, but this time it froze in mid-install and now nothing I put in that machine will make it respond.
- I really liked Mandrake while I had it on the Astro, which was why I chose it for the other Gateway when I was rebuilding it as a server, so I'd be willing to give Mandriva a try, but I think I need some opinions, first. This is for my 390X, BTW. It's a LOU, which is 450PIII running 128MB, which is the most I can seem to find locally.

Gom, if everything was working, why order the powerpack version ?

The Powerpack version comes with a few commercial programs included. It also has support for more than one GB of RAm out of the box. The Mandriva One version needs manual tweaking for supporting more than one GB of RAM:

Or, maybe Gom just wants to support his favorite distro. Either way, it is not a bad thing to order the Powerpack.
