can i install linux on simpletech portable hard drive?

after reading a few reviews I want to make sure that I can install linux on athis external hd.
Do you currently have an external hd with linux on it? How is it working for you? Is there a better external hd i should check out? And how much space do you think is minimum for installing linux?
