Linux Mint on 600X

#1 Post by pikaia » Sat May 17, 2008 5:42 pm

Hey,

I've tried several Linux forums and can't seem to get any help with this one, so I thought I'd try here.

I just installed Linux Mint on my 600X last night but it locks up during boot at the "Saving VESA State" message. I tried commenting out the entire /etc/init.d/vbesave script but now it just hangs at console fonts.

I can load it in "Recovery Mode" and startx but I don't have full access to files and apps. I've also tried several other distros and have found this to be a common issue... strange because I didn't have as much problems getting them going on an 600E...

I've tried noapic nolapic acpi=off and the screen just goes blank, If I just put nolapic acpi=off, I get the same hang up as before.

I appreciate any direction.

Thanks

Mint may be a bit too much for your 600x...I've had next to no luck with it on P3 machines, and I use it every day on both P4M and PM units.

My distro suggestion would go somewhere along this route:

- SuSE (I've run 9.2 retail and it was great on 600x)
- PC Linux OS (older version, aka 2006)

Good luck and let us know.
