Fedora Installation Problem..HELPPPPPP

#1 Post by arvmenon » Wed Dec 15, 2004 6:42 pm

I was going to install Fedora Core 3 on my 23733XU, but when I try to partition the drive (automatic or manual) I get the message that it can't access the partition table and has to reinitialize the hard drive, causing loss of all data. I tried it a couple of times but it is still a problem. Can anyone help me with this? Is it a problem with Fedora and Redhat or is it a problem with the Thinkpad?

I installed FC3 on a T20 with no problems, but I did it on a fresh disk.

I suspect that your entire disk is NTFS and Linux can't re-partition it without wiping the existing partition. You could try using Partition Magic to create a FAT32 partition then see if FC3 will go in there, but be sure you have a known good backup before you do anything with partions.

The safest bet is to either get a new drive for Linux, or just let it wipe the disk and start over.

You cannot change the partition table at all? Sounds like the predesktop area security is set to "paranoid" (uhm well I guess the option is really called "secure" in the bios). Go to the bios and change to "normal".

FC3 installed without a problem on my T41.
