Will having Dual Boot XP/Ubuntu mess with Bios/HDD Password?
Dangerous territory here I think. If I enable BIOS password and Hard drive password on my x41, and setup dual boot with Ubuntu. Will this cause any trouble with the passwords?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Will having Dual Boot XP/Ubuntu mess with Bios/HDD Passw
Great question! While I do not have the answer, I will share how I've dealt with it. Fortunately just moments before doing the Ubuntu install I remembered about my use of the BIOS- HDD password. So I disabled it, did the install - too easy & too good to be true - and I have not restored the password yet. Thus, I will be watching this space for an answer as well.kunfuchopsticks wrote:Dangerous territory here I think. I've done a dual boot setup with Win XP and Ubuntu with the hard drive & power on passwords enabled with no issue. I haven't done it with the BIOS password enabled (I assume you you're referring to the supervisor password). I don't really see how you could have problems with it set. The only thing might be if you don't have the boot order set so the live cd boots first, but you'd simply just enter the BIOS password and change the boot order.

Re: Will having Dual Boot XP/Ubuntu mess with Bios/HDD Passw
From personal experience, I can tell you that the BIOS password and HDD password are going to function just fine, regardless of the operating system you have on board. Those two passwords are required before any operating system even begins to load.kunfuchopsticks wrote:Dangerous territory here I think. If you've not used Ubuntu thus far, you're in for a nice surprise. While its been just a few months now, I'm extremely pleased with it and find more I like about it everyday.kunfuchopsticks wrote:Good to here good news, but Grub is considered pre any OS, so I thought the passwords might affect it.
But now I feel better, and as soon as I perfect my XP install I'll put in Ubuntu!. thanks
