Installing Ubuntu on T22

Anyone install Ubuntu on a T22? I've tried installing it but it seems like it's too much for my little machine...

It probably is. There are lighter versions of Ubuntu, meant for older machines.
How much RAM do you have in there?
My favourite distro for older P3 machines was PC Linux OS2006, it worked flawlessly on many of them, you may want to give it a shot.

dispensing with "gnome" is the key: I run debian on
machines right dn to 150mHz (760e) with zero problem:
fvwm2 is my window manager of choice. The t22 is quite
snappy with this combo.

If you are new to linux, and do not want to learn how it works, I suggest you use xubuntu, or another mainstream distro with something other than gnome/kde. If you do want to learn about linux, go with debian all the way. You won't be sorry.

I have a T20 that runs Kubuntu 7.10 quite nicely. Honestly, there were some initial issues with video and to some small degree wifi. The video issue was fairly easy to resolve, but did require editing xorg.conf (actually using a previous one from another life). The wifi was completely unrelated to the fact that I use a T20; it's the old Broadcom wifi chip nemesis that was quickly resolved, by the way, with Kubuntu's repositories.

Agree with Tom and linko. fluxbox + Debian on x22 using apps like Dillo and rxvt was super fast. There are many other lightweight window managers, of course, though something like OpenBox should be easy to get through, or a desktop like XFCE will easily out perform Gnome and KDE while avoiding their (frankly, often times ridiculous) dependencies, overhead, and space/system requirements.

i have a T22 that has 512mb RAM and a 900mhz CPU, i run Ubuntu Studio 7.04 on it and have never had a problem. the function keys all work, and it has no hardware conflicts. i use it mainly for school work, sometimes a little photo work with GIMP, but hardly anything past that.
an upgrade to 7.10 is not going to help. my friend has a T4x that runs 7.10 excellently, but 7.04 is the sweet spot of the T22.
i've tried other distros, but only Ubuntu works best. i'm using gnome, but its not incredibly sluggish. if you can go for a distro that's no based on gnome though, do it. fluxbox, XFCE, all light desktop managers are great.
