X40 Hot Swap Dock in Linux

I just made the jump to Linux. The main reason behind the move was to put some life into my X40's anemic hard drive!
Since this was very recent decision I opted for Ubuntu's 8.05 Hardy Heron release. Everything works well out of the box EXCEPT... the hot swap feature of the dock.
I found plenty of Internet help on everything else, but nothing on this specific 'problem'.
It could be that since I'm new to the OS I have no idea how to find or install this feature!
But am I correct in thinking that IBMs hot swap features cannot be properly implemented in Linux at this time?

1st: Sorry for digging into an older thread.

2nd: Welcome to Linux!

3rd: I had a similar problem with my R50 freezing when I was using Mandriva 07 (I think it was 07) and tried to disconnect from the dock. However, in Mand08+09 the problem ceased to exist. I have been able to hot swap dock in both Mandriva and Ubuntu 8.10 without issue.

Thanks for getting back to me.
It seems Linux's hot swap feature is Thinkpad specific.
It works right out of the box with my (new) X41 but
freezes with my X40, using Ubuntu Hardy Heron.
I tried Ibex but it gave me a host of other problems on my X40
and since Heron works 100% on the X41, I'll stay with it.
So Linux on the X41 and XP on the X40!
