[SOLVED] AT&T WWAN in thinkpad T60 Ubuntu 8.10

#1 Post by woodpusherghd » Fri Nov 07, 2008 5:32 pm

I have AT&T wireless broadband using a Sierra Wireless minipci card 8765. I just installed Intrepid . I can connect using GnomePPP but can't seem to get Network Manager to recognize the card. Anyone get this card to work with Network Manager in a thinkpad T60?

Thanks

Apparently, the Kernel doesn't recognized the sierra mini pci card as a modem. This was corrected by creating a modems.fdi file in /etc/hal/fdi/information. Additionally, I discovered that the modem was using the usb serial driver limiting it's download speed to about 430 kbs. I discovered the sierra driver source code incorrectly identified the card (MC8765) as product id 6803 instead of 6805. After editing the source code, compiling and installing, I can connect via Network Manager with download speeds of 1.5 Mbs.

Sierra Wireless 875 PCMCIA Card
ThinkPad T61p
8.10, upgrade from 8.04, upgrade from 7.10

I already had the Sierra Wireless drivers installed since I used pppd under 7.10 and KPPP under 8.04, now Network Manager under 8.10.

Right click on Network Manager, select New connection... -> ttyUSB0

Username: leave blank
Password: <enter your password>
PIN: leave blank
PUK: leave blank
Number: *99***1#
APN: leave blank
Network ID: leave blank
Network Type: Select 'Any'
Band: 1

click Next 4 times then enter ATT in the Connection Name field and click Save

Left click on Network Manager and under "Mobile Broadband" click the radio button next to ATT (connection name entered in the previous step)

I'm sorry Bashar, I am unable to assist with your Ericsson card since I have no idea what it needs for drivers or config parameters.
