external monitor problem ..... revised

#1 Post by liberte » Fri Nov 07, 2008 8:39 pm

Have a T61, advanced mini-dock and LG 24" monitor (W2452T) running Vista. I dock the machine, leaving the lid closed, power up and utilize the LG as the only monitor. Works great.

Upgraded the hard disk to 320G and installed Ununtu 8.10 for a dual boot. Installed the latest Nvidia drivers. There's no output on the LG. Following some posts I found, went into nvidia-settings, enabled the LG and disabled the integrated LCD.

The LG shows the boot normally -- some text, then the big Ubuntu logo. At this point, the LG goes blank, the integrated LCD powers up and completes the boot. The LG will not go back on. I go back into nvidia-settings and find the LG is again shown as disabled and the thinkpad LCD is again enabled. Huh??

It looks like the xserver is crashing on the external monitor. Do you have an external monitor on your system? If so, please post the xorg.conf file for the external monitor. I sure would appreciate it.....
