T61 won't always resume from suspend

#1 Post by Paul Unger » Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:40 pm

T61, Ubuntu 8.04, Fn + F4 suspends nicely. It will even resume by pressing the Fn key if it hasn't been asleep too long (< 1/2 hr.? I've never timed it, so there's nothing scientific about that number . . . ). However, if I leave it asleep for a couple of hours, nothing will bring it back to life: pressing Fn key, pressing Fn key repeatedly, holding Fn key for a few seconds, holding Fn key for many seconds, closing lid / opening lid, nothing (unless there's another key combination?). The only thing that works is holding the power button until it shut off and restarting it. Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks.

Strange, my R61 will sleep and hibernate flawlessly with Fedora 9 and Debian Lenny. Do you have anything plugged into USB ports? I had a problem with a bluetooth usb dongle, when it was plugged in the thinkpad would go to sleep and immediately wake itself up again.

I had/have two things plugged in: a Logitech V450 wireless mouse dongle and a 4gb SD card in the card reader (which, when it does resume, is always 'mounted' in a window I can't see the contents of; the only way I can tell what it is is by the indicator in the taskbar). Perhaps I'll try unplugging the mouse before suspending.
