Ubuntu on T30

Hello guys, this is my first post here, looks like this is a useful forum for me, I use only Thinkpads.

Has anyone installed Ubuntu on a T30? I have tried installing it on two T30's and I have the same problem on both, if I enable only the CD drive as a boot device to see the error it says:

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
Operating System not found

I have the Ubuntu 8.10 CD and I am running latest firmware version on one of the T30 and an older one on the other T30. Both behave in same manner. I have installed Debian without problem (until realizing wifi problems) and I have tried the 8.10 CD in my T43 and it works fine there.

Thanks.

Sounds like it's not reading the CD correctly. Have you tried burning the CD at a lower speed? I've encountered this before, burning the ISO at 2x/4x might do the trick.

Well I thought about that possibility, but the CD runs fine on same computer if opend in Debian which is on the T30 now. The other T30 is running WinXP and it opens there too. Maybe I should try it anyway, maybe use the burner in the T30 itself.

Thanks.

Well n1hilist, I burned 8.04 at 2x on a T30 and it worked, probably it would have worked for 8.10 also.

Good idea, thanks.

Awesome, glad you got it sorted :D

I've had this on even fairly new optical drives in desktop PCs, that's why I always burn bootable / install media at slow speeds.
