Thinkpad R40 (type 2681) and RedHat 7.0

#1 Post by OldCruft » Thu Jan 27, 2005 9:57 am

Yes, 7.0 is old and has issues with the C compiler, but orders are orders...

The video problems are solved by replacing the X window system with 4.4.0, thus getting a set of drivers that work.

But I just can not get the Intel Pro 100/VE to work.

Intel's offical driver you can download today is for 2.4 and better kernels, and RedHat 7.0 is 2.2.16. In the past, I've tried upgrading the kernel from source, but the broken C compiler gets in the way.

Suggestions beyond 'upgrade from RedHat 7.0'?

(BTW, everything works fine on FreeBSD.)

Two solutions:
  • 1) Install a newer gcc
    2) Compile the kernel (preferably, build rpm) on a different computer with a current gcc.

Solution #2 got me a big heap of nothing.

Still SEES that there is an intel card there, but says its unknown.
