(X60s) Issue with Intel Linux (ubuntu) video driver

For no apparent reason my glxgear score took a dive form ~1150fps to 200fps. So I decided to update the video driver. In my attempt to update the video driver (xf86-video-intel-2.7.0) I ran into this:

(after sudo ./configure)

checking for DRM... configure: error: Package requirements (libdrm >= 2.4.6) were not met:

Requested 'libdrm >= 2.4.6' but version of libdrm is 2.4.5

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables DRM_CFLAGS
and DRM_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.

I looked for a newer version of libdrm but the results have so far been either failed compilations or incompatible .deb files. Help much needed.

Apparently someone has the answer I need but unfortunate he didn't say that in plain English. Could someone translate?

To use this driver you'd need to most likely rebuild Xorg from scratch.... I had to in F10.... instead I just installed Fedora 11 Prerelease which includes the newest driver.
